2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PAM Recognizes Kron as a Niche Player Once Again

Aug 08, 2021 / Kron

The 2021 Magic Quadrant for Privileged Access Management (PAM) report of the world-renowned research and advisory firm Gartner has been published. Kron was named a “Niche Player” in the report for the second time in a row, as one of the top 10 companies providing PAM solutions across the globe.

The 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PAM report, in which we have been featured thanks to the cybersecurity solutions we offer to the world's leading companies across a variety of sectors with our Privileged Access Management (PAM) product Single Connect, and the advanced data and access security capabilities these solutions provide, further strengthened our position among the competitive and innovative products in the global arena.

Let us take a look at the details of the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant report and the story behind the success of our PAM solution, Single Connect.

Market Definition and Capabilities of Privileged Access Management (PAM)

Gartner defines Privileged Access Management (PAM) as a core security technology developed in order to ensure the security of the accounts with privileged access and their credentials, as well as the operations within in-house networks. According to Gartner, privileged access, which includes functions significantly different from standard access, refers to the scope of access for the people who manage, configure, and monitor networks and systems.

The basic capabilities of PAM applications, which are also featured in Single Connect, the PAM solution developed by Kron, are listed by Gartner as follows:

  • Designation of privileged accounts for a vast number of different applications, systems, and networks
  • Credential management of the designated privileged accounts
  • Access delegation for privileged users
  • Performing the functions of account creation, management, and monitoring, as well as opening privileged accounts to interaction
  • Controlled supervision and upgrade of all commands to be given through the network

On the other hand, according to Gartner, PAM systems also offer on-demand services. These services, which are offered by Single Connect as well, are listed as follows:

  • Hidden network directory management for applications, networks, systems, and devices
  • Privileged Task Automation (PTA)
  • Remote and end-to-end privileged access for external users

In addition, it is worth noting that Gartner has identified three key tools for the executives of security and risk management (SRM) companies who want to invest in PAM solutions:

  • Privileged Account and Session Management (PASM): This tool helps to keep the accounts and their credentials in encrypted vaults, isolated from the general network.
  • Privilege Elevation and Delegation Management (PEDM): This tool is used to give the users on the in-house network some host-based privileges. Privileges granted by using PEDM offer command control and privilege elevation. Thus, operating systems allow login and directory bridging using credentials.
  • Secrets Management: This tool, which enables the encryption of passwords and credentials in IaaS, PaaS, and container management platforms, is used in DevSecOps pipelines to determine the hierarchy of privilege between non-human entities.

Now that we addressed Gartner's perspective on PAM applications, let us examine the capabilities and advanced security features of our Single Connect solution, highlighted as a Niche Player in the 2021 report.

How Kron was Mentioned in the Magic Quadrant Report

The 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PAM report, in which we have been featured as a Niche Player, mentions that our Privileged Access Management solution offers UNIX, Linux, and Windows-compatible PASM and PEDM capabilities. The report also states that our operational regions include companies in Europe and North America and that we are planning to develop detailed PAM capabilities for IoT devices through Single Connect.

The report, which also addresses certain characteristics of Single Connect that offer advanced security, mentions that scalability, database controls, session control, and service provider services are the prominent features of the product. The report also emphasizes our service provider identity and the multitenant service we offer, which distinguishes Kron from other companies. Single Connect and PAM Modules

Single Connect, our Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution, offers companies in various sectors highly effective and versatile cybersecurity features regarding data security. Let us take a look at the modules of Single Connect and see in detail the benefits this solution offers:

  • Privileged Session Manager (PSM): This module enables you to monitor all privileged sessions on the network. Providing comprehensive management capabilities, the PSM prevents possible threats in terms of access management.
  • Password Vault: This module, which offers an entirely encrypted network structure, enables the storing of all passwords of authorized users in password vaults, isolated from the public network. Thus, the theft and dissemination of the passwords of privileged accounts are prevented.
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Unlike conventional verification systems, 2FA can simultaneously verify time and location. The two-factor authentication successfully prevents any attempts made by unauthorized accounts to enter the network.
  • Database Access Manager & Dynamic Data Masking: This module, which ensures access security in the database and monitors the actions of the administrators with privileged access in the system, records all actions of the administrators with the help of the dynamic data masking feature. Since all actions are recorded, attempts made by unauthorized accounts are immediately spotted.
  • Privileged Task Automation (PTA): PTA uses its automation system to automate routine tasks. The automation of basic tasks in the network reduces service interruptions and maximizes productivity by allowing employees to concentrate on other tasks.
  • Unified Access Manager (TACACS+ / RADIUS): This module, which is used in the network infrastructure to perform the tasks of central access and access verification in AAA processes, offers secure access management in RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service) and TACACS+ (Terminal Access Controller Access-Control System Plus) protocols.

Our Privileged Access Management Product Single Connect is proven to be one of the world's leading PAM solutions by being positioned in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PAM report two years in a row. We provide end-to-end cybersecurity services regarding data and access security to companies and institutions across many different sectors from energy to health, and even to public institutions.
